Without fear, we are able to see more clearly our connections to others. Without fear, we have more room for understanding and compassion. Without fear, we are truly free.

How do we generate the energy of compassion? Compassion is born from understanding, and understanding is born from looking deeply. We need to take time to look deeply into our situation, and the situation of the other person or other people. Let us learn to look at our suffering, and the suffering of our world, as a kind of compost. From that compost, from that mud, we can create beautiful lotuses of understanding and compassion.
